Moro group wants tripartite body convened earlier

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) leadership pressed for the immediate reconvening of the Tripartite Conference to resolve the conflict brought by the action of Commander Habier Malik against government forces.

"The need for the reconvening of the Tripartite Conference has become more urgent and compelling at this time, to prevent the escalation of hostilities and to spare the civilians from further adverse effects wrought by the continued fighting," Jimmy Labuan, MNLF vice chairman, said in an interview.

"We believe, Commander Malik will not take drastic actions unless provoked. He was provoked that's why he retaliated," Labuan said in response to the accusation by the military that Malik ordered the mortar attacks on government building and military detachment without provocation.

Dior parts with star designer

Jil Sander, for example, voluntarily left the company she had sold to the Prada group, later mending fences before walking out a second time. In that case, the company suffered financially until the arrival of Belgian designer Raf Simons who is now repairing the brand's ragged reputation. Helmut Lang also walked away from his own label, then part of Prada, in 2005.

Is Slimane's departure likely to hurt Dior's bottom line, as the company aims to reach its sales target of €1 billion, or $1.3 billion?

Antoine Colonna, a financial analyst with Merrill Lynch, said that would depend on how Dior's growth and position in the industry is viewed.

"With Jil Sander, its business was driven by style, but it depends if a company is driven by accessories, like Gucci, or whether it is a fashion company," Colonna said.

Doctors to Profit from their Medical Device Ideas

Agents for Medics (A4M) is a new Hollywood based company that is the world's first agency to represent doctors in "selling" their medical device ideas to healthcare companies.

Hollywood, CA (PRWEB) March 23, 2007 -- The medical device industry is a multi-billion dollar business. Many everyday operations and medical procedures use devices that were originally devised by doctors. But doctors have little time to deal with the long and complex procedure of bringing those ideas to market. Often, through poor understanding and poor negotiation, they end up making little money from their ideas.

A4M provides a much needed link between the doctors, who invent the devices, and the multi-national medical companies, who make and sell them.

"Doctors are always looking to improve medical procedures," says Steve Bell, co-founder of A4M and former manager at Johnson & Johnson.

City and transit union to meet with mediator

The city and transit union will huddle with a mediator next week in hopes of bridging the gap between the two sides and defusing a potential strike.

The province has appointed Steve Morrison to act as a third party mediator between the city and Amalgamated Transit Union Local 583, with talks slated for Wednesday and Thursday.

Bus and C-Train drivers have continued a work-to-rule campaign for two weeks, refusing overtime and disrupting some routes in hopes of turning up the heat on the city.

Union boss Mike Mahar said hes looking forward to getting back to the negotiating table in hopes of finding some middle ground and resolving 10 months of failed talks since the last collective agreement expired.

Theres no question well attempt to get a deal done, he said.

While there are more than three dozen outstanding issues between the two sides, wages have been the primary flashpoint with the union calling for a 15% hike over 30 months and the city offering 10% over 36 months.

Qualcomm Says It Files Arbitration Demand Against Nokia To Resolve ...

(RTTNews) - Qualcomm Inc. (QCOM | charts | news | PowerRating) on Thursday requested, in a demand filed with the American Arbitration Association, a ruling that Nokia's continued use of the company's patents in Nokia's CDMA cellular handsets after April 9, 2007 constitutes an election by Nokia to extend its license under the parties' existing agreement.

Qualcomm stated that such an extension would obligate Nokia to pay Qualcomm the same royalty specified in the current agreement and prohibit Nokia from asserting patent claims against the company's CDMA products.

In addition, Qualcomm also seeks the association to provide a ruling that it is entitled to terminate all of Nokia's rights and licenses under the agreement, if Nokia sues Qualcomm for patent infringement after April 9, 2007.
