COLUMBUS, Miss. A mediator has been named to help resolve the dispute between the Mississippi University for Women's president and the school's alumni association.

Former Mississippi Supreme Court Justice James L- Roberts Junior has been apppointed to mediate the dispute.

Muslim in East London? Become a Mediator

The Muslim Mediation Service has been serving the community for the past three years and is based in East Ham. We support couples, parents, children and relatives who are in dispute, to communicate their concerns to one another in an effective way in order to help resolve their conflicts. We are currently recruiting people to join our team of experienced and trained Volunteer Mediators. Do you think you have the qualities to bring about understanding between people? Could you remain impartial regardless of which party you felt was to blame for the dispute? Can you spare on average 2 hours twice a week during weekdays or evenings? It is necessary for all volunteers to have completed a training programme in Conflict Management in order to become Mediators. The 8-day training will take place on the following dates in Summer 2007 from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm each day: Tuesday 29th May, Saturday 2nd June, Tuesday 05th June, Saturday 9th June, Tuesday 12th June, Tuesday 19th June, Saturday 23rd June, Tuesday 26th June.

Mixed reaction to Mbeki's role in Zim mediation

The Southern African Development Community's (SADC) decision to appoint President Thabo Mbeki as mediator in Zimbabwe was both lauded and ridiculed on Friday. "The Inkatha Freedom Party [IFP] welcomes the SADC's decision to call on President Thabo Mbeki to lead efforts to promote discussions between rival political parties in Zimbabwe," IFP spokesperson Ben Skosana said in a statement. The party had recently called for an honest broker, such as Mbeki, to organise all relevant factions in Zimbabwe to start negotiating. "We are therefore extremely pleased that the IFP's suggestions were echoed by SADC, and we hope to see constructive talks between Zanu-PF and [the opposition Movement for Democratic Change] MDC, so that democracy in one of the most troubled countries on the African continent can be restored," Skosana said.

NASD Did Me Wrong, Claims Broker

Ex-Merrill Lynch broker Christopher Pan, has accused the NASD of handing him the short end of the stick in an arbitration case. The New York Post reports that Jeffrey Liddle, a lawyer representing Pan, is accusing Sherri Hughes, a veteran NASD dispute resolution arbitrator, of having ruled on the merits of Pan's claim before his legal team has formally filed documentation related to the arbitration. His charges are based on an e-mail sent by Hughes to two other panelists instructing them to dismiss Pan's defamation claim against Merrill. Liddle claims the problem here is he was denied his well-established right to argue the claim. Arbitration panel are forbidden to discuss case merits before arguments have been made.   .
